On 9 April 1910, Mr. I C Jocumsen of Spring Creek Farm via Mount Larcom wrote to the Department of Public Instruction requesting official forms of application for establishment of a school at Machine Creek.
Shortly after a public meeting was held and J C Jocumsen, W Griffiths and J C E Jacobsen were elected as members of a building committee for promoting the establishment of a state school. The application for a school dated 23 April 1910, together with a list of eighteen children who would be attending the proposed school, was sent to the Department. Mr. H Burns of Calliope was contracted to build the school in three months from commencement. The tender price accepted was for two hundred thirty nine pounds twelve shillings (9.20). The building was to be set on high stumps and would house forty-eight children. The construction was completed in time for the opening of the school on the 24 July 1911.
